It is imperative that employers ensure that all selection tools follow the standards established for the validation of employment tests, as described in the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (1978); 43 FR 38295 (August 25, 1978), which was developed to assist employers in complying with civil rights laws. Common selection tools include minimum qualifications (MQs) screening, supplemental applications, interviews, written examinations, and work samples.
